May 31 We have Fruit growing everywhere

My daughter is very happy with her fruit bushes and herbs
They are growing in the sun and she is looking after them very well
She has TAYBERRY growing up the trellis and BOYSENBERRY to the left and.....

Our MINT is in a Hanging Basket
That's the end of our very busy month of May 2013

28 May Artichokes have been planted outside

My Daughter has sown loads of Artichokes in the Greenhouse
She has just planted the Jerusalem ones along the fence
I have never tasted an Artichoke but she says they are nice
We got a shock when we read how big they can grow !

May 31 An experiment with Spring Onions

I usually keep Supermarket Spring onions going for weeks.  I keep the bit with the roots on in in a little water and they keep growing new leaves
An experiment.  I have put a short bit with roots on in the Kitchen Garden to see if they do so well outside

29 May Square Foot Vegetables sown

I have sown some seeds in my Square Foot Raised bed
Radish - Jolly
Beetroot - Bolthardy
Dwarf French Beans - Speedy
Lettuce - Spicy Mix
Lettuce - Winter Mix
I have stopped the bars on the canopy from sliding down by wrapping elastic bands around the joints
Hopefully the netting will keep our cats from digging up the seeds

I can now use my recycled Milk Container Slug Pubs

Now we have a fence I can use my Slug Pubs which I made from Milk Containers.

They have been hiding in the greenhouse since our dog ran off with them.  I put Beer in them to entice Slugs which I think die happy ?
This is one of my many recycling in the Garden Tips I have on my other Blog

27 May My Square Foot Garden is nearly ready for planting

I will be ready to plant up a Square Foot Garden very soon after reading about this method on
I have a problem with the canopy on my raised bed
The joint on top keeps falling apart. The join is now covered in electrical tape as glue didn't work
The bars on the sides keep falling down so I am using clothes pegs to stop them
. I have netting ready but I must sort out the canopy somehow ?

27 May LINKABORD Review. Things I wish I had known before starting

I have just finished making the last 2 of 5 raised beds
Before starting I wish I had known that .........

The end of each securing pegs is tapered making it easier to poke in the hole and....

It would have been best to put the pegs in half way to stop the bed falling apart when I moved it into position
When it was in it's final position I pushed the pegs down to stop the bed moving
I left a few inches sticking up so I can peg my net down with clothes pegs

26 May How to find slugs easily in a flowerpot

We found out by accident the quickest way to find any slugs in a flowerpot
Simply dunk it in a bucket of water and the slugs can't get out of the soil quick enough !
Can you see the 3 which were in this pot ?

21 May Feeling sluggish ?

Do you like the hole I've just dug ?  It must be good for Marion to take a photo of it.

Whoops.... this is what she was trying to point out.  She keeps this pot with salt in it.  It is especially for slugs only.  When she finds a slug she puts it in the pot where it goes frothy and dies....poor slug.

20 May Free plant labels

There will never be a shortage of plant labels with the amount of lollies they eat !

19th May Vegetables planted so far

I heard Marion talking about pees in the bed....IT WASN'T ME !  Our four cats think that the new beds are enormous litter trays so they must have done it.
From behind the gate I can see that....

We have Peas...ah that's what she is talking about !
We now have
PEAS - Hurst Greenshaft
planted in the enormous cat litter trays

The BROAD BEANS - Masterpiece Green are staying in their pots
Nothing planted for me  !

9 May I have been listening

I think I understand now what has happened
OUR garden....WHAT !  I thought it was MY garden ! has been chopped in half
The mystery area beyond the wooden stripey thingy is now a Vegetable and Fruit Garden and I am not allowed in because Marion said

She spent an hour digging today
I thought that was my job.  I love digging holes
So far she has dug up 3 marbles, a yellow piece of lego, a plastic toy Pig and a mini Fred Flintstone   What is she digging for ?
